Platforms that operators will use
Internal platforms succeed when they remove friction from decisions people already make. They fail when they invent a new process that exists only to justify the software.
Spend time with the operators. Watch where work stalls — waiting on approvals, re-keying data, reconciling two systems that disagree. Those stalls are the product backlog.
Interface craft matters here as much as it does on a customer-facing product. Clarity, keyboard flow, and predictable states are not polish; they are how adoption happens. An unused platform is an expensive document.
Measure the platform the way you measure the operation: cycle time, error rate, exception volume, and the number of workarounds that still live in email. If those numbers do not move, the platform is not finished.
